TAAG stands for Transylvania Animal Alliance Group. We are a non-profit animal rescue group located in Western NC.

We're primarily a Foster Network, and also support a strong spay/neuter initiative. We work together with both County shelters and other animal rescue groups.

Low Cost Spay/Neuter Program

"Spay/Neuter is the primary solution to the overwhelming problem of animal overpopulation."

This year we have been running our Spay/Neuter Program on donations from the public, since we did not win any grant money due to increased need nationwide. Our numbers reflect this, since we have not been able to help as many families as we would have liked to - this year we have been able to assist with the cost of over 200 surgeries so far for 145 families on disability or unemployment. We would like to expand the program to assist more families, but we need your help! If you combine the number of animals in our adoption/foster program with our spay/neuter program, we helped pay for over 400 surgeries this year.

Thanks to low-cost spay neuter clinics in our community ... Noah's ARC and Asheville Humane Alliance ... we can provide services to more families and more of their animals, reducing pressure on local shelters and on rescue agencies who are rapidly becoming overwhelmed by the increasing numbers of homeless pets.

Spay/Neuter and Clinic Costs ...

  • $40 pays for the neuter of one male cat
  • $60 pays for one male dog
  • $60 pays for spaying either a female cat or dog
  • $10 pays for vaccines (or rabies vaccine)
  • $20 pays for testing for Feline Leukemia (FeLV) or FIV
  • $18 pays for heartworm testing
  • $10 covers the cost of a microchip.

Depending on your county, we may be able to offer further financial assistance for low income families

... HELPING FIND FURR-EVER HOMES

People often ask where we get the rescued animals that we adopt out. The answer is, in as many ways as you can imagine! A special group of animals came from a home that had acquired over 100 cats and dogs. Community Partnership for Pets (CPPI) asked TAAG to help place some of them, and we agreed to do so.

To date we have placed 13 of those dogs and 14 cats. This is the story of one of them ...

Lulu lived in a crate for most of her life - that meant little food, and almost no human contact. Lonely days laying in her own urine and feces ended when CPPI pulled her out and sent her to be fostered by an angel named Joan Roberts (Joan has fostered more than 10 of these dogs).

Today, Lulu lives with her new owners, Troy and Peter. They tell Joan that "She is a princess and loving it. She is unbelievable - the best dog we have ever had - smart, goofy and playful."

By communicating with other rescue agencies, we increase the chances for animals with special needs to find their own special homes. We network with Friends for Life in Cashiers, the Cashiers/ Highlands Humane Society, Holy Cow Ministries and Animal Lighthouse in Cedar Mountain, CPPI in Hendersonville, with county animal shelters in Transylvania, Henderson, and Greenville County as well as on the internet with many breed rescues.

We are a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization and donations are tax deductible.
